I'm sure I remembered at one point...but I don't anymore.

I don’t remember which one was the first one I read, but I remember which one motivated me to sign up as a commenter.
It was a post announcing Cadillac’s new CT naming system , starting with the CT6. The redundancy of “ Cadillac Cadillac Touring 6” (Cadillac CT6) was really grinding my gears. Not gonna lie, it still pisses me off a little.

I don’t remember the first post I read, but I’m sure it was about the Ford GT. I think I found Jalopnik after a Ford GT search on Google. The first comment I made was in June of 2009 when I commented on a Murilee Martin post.

Fairly confident the first post I read was one of the “Daily DUI’s” when they were still doing it.

Somehow I figured... I’m guessing you’re one of the oldest commenters though; I started reading Jalopnik regularly around 08/09 but I didn’t start commenting until 2013

That article is pure “old Jalopnik”

Shit, I can’t remember what I read yesterday, but I was around in that era.

I think the only reason I remembered that article was because of the wacky AMC Concord...

So many tombstoned commentors.

Very early on I remember reading about the common failures of the most popular Lemons cars. It was a guest post from a seasoned Lemons racer.

One of the “you’re doing it wrong” series. It was shared to me and I read some of the site until I found Oppositelock.

There’s a few of us oldies around yet. You’re right about it being a different place now. I really miss some of those guys from back then. I lurked in the shadows for a short time before I commented. When I first started reading Jalopnik, I didn’t even read the comments. One day, just to kill time, I read the comments and was very impressed with the knowledge and sense of humor those guys had. I thought that I might enjoy it, and I guess I did because I’m still here.

Something Murilee Martin - it was a different world. A lot less shilly and snooty bearded hipster authorship then, and less easily offended commenters.

That’s what I was thinking. Only one I recognized was Graverobber since he does np or cp now.

I recognize a bunch of people that don’t comment anymore.

Just for fun, here is the first Jalopnik article ever posted. Crazy that it all got kicked off 12 years ago last month.

Oh for sure, back when the starred commenter system was in place, the comments were the best part of Jalopnik! It was a pretty small and niche community back then though and I understand the desire to open it to a larger audience

I remember the weekly Lemons galleries! That and DOTS were some of my favorite features

Lets be honest, it wasn’t even a contest...

DOTS was awesome!

I didn’t know what Jalopnik was when I met Jonny Lieberman, but he wanted to do a post about my microcars, so that’s the first article I ever read. They don’t do much stuff like this any more.

I still do a giant DOTS gallery once a year or so... My phone is getting full so I might do one soon

I didn’t even know he wrote for Jalopnik! But yeah, apart from the odd Torch or Orlove article I feel like a lot of its early character has worn off

He started at Jalopnik. He went to college with a friend of mine, so we’ve stayed in touch. Jonny is the one who brought Torch to Jalopnik. Which happened because Jason saw that post about me. So, you’re welcome for Jason Torchinsky.
Yeah, it’s too bad that a lot of the quirkiness is gone. It was, and should still be, the cool kids’ car site.

I believe my first exposure was this: http://jalopnik.com/5497042/how-a-…
I’ve been reading Jalopnik ever since. Only started commenting in the last year or so.

Back then you knew all the commenters, but that changed for sure.

Yeah, it has changed a lot. Some for the better some for the worst. Seeing a post celebrating the first time someone plugged a tire almost made me stroke out today.
